Even more importantly, I so appreciated that this story had all the feels without any step-by-step sex scenes or excessive swearing–I was able to feel the romance, the fear, the love, and the evil without the play-by-plays and f-bombs.

I loved the diversity of characters and their traits, the unique setting, and even the unexpected supernatural element (which didn’t feel gimicky or unnatural). Once I settled into the story, though, I was hooked. It took me a couple of chapters to get into the book, as I didn’t quite understand the point-of-view characters at first (I listened to the audio I suspect the physical book may have cues in it to help with that). My first Elin Hilderbrand book, so I didn’t know what to expect (for some reason I thought she wrote historical fiction). With Grace gleefully haunting the halls, a staff harboring all kinds of secrets, and Lizbet’s own romantic uncertainty, is the Hotel Nantucket destined for success or doom? The staff (and guests) have complicated pasts, and the hotel can’t seem to overcome the bad reputation it earned in 1922 when a tragic fire killed nineteen-year-old chambermaid Grace Hadley.
